Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 2-year position commencing 15 October 2023 or as soon as possible hereafter. Within these two years, the successful candidate will evaluate PET tracers aiming to image the in vivo serotonin synthesis in the brain.
Our research
The Herth group´s research focusses on the development of radiopharmaceutical drugs investigating brain function. In particular, PET radiopharmaceuticals targeting the serotonergic system have been developed over the years. The group consist currently of 10 members (4 PostDocs, 3 PhDs, and 3 Master students).
Your job
Tryptophan (Trp) and its metabolites are involved in a broad set of (patho)physiological conditions and diseases such as depression or cancer. It is metabolized either through the kynurenine pathway or enters the serotonin/melatonin synthesis pathway. Many aspects of the metabolic and catabolic role of tryptophan remain unclear, partially because of the difficulty of measuring these physiological processes. Positron emission tomography (PET) is a imaging technique that can trace biochemical processes on the molecular level and quantify varying concentrations of metabolites or degradation products of Trp if a suitable PET tracer exists. We have recently developed a novel PET tracer, 7-[18F]Fluorotryptophan (7-[18F]FTrp), which has the potential to measure the in vivo fate of Trp. In this project, we will evaluate in depth the possibility of 7-[18F]FTrp to quantify alterations in both serotonin/melatonin and kynurenine metabolic rates in pigs and humans.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- You have a PhD in radiopharmaceutical chemistry/biology or in a related field
- You are highly experienced in molecular imaging, PET or SPECT
- You have an active interest in CNS
- Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
- Excellent English skills written and spoken
- Experience in PET tracer evaluation
- Knowledge about molecular imaging
The place of employment is at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and imaging facilities.
Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years. The starting date is 15 October 2023 or after agreement.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation.
